St Buryan Cottages with Hot Tubs
St Buryan Guide
St Buryan's cottages with hot tubs offer a perfect Cornish escape, just 4 miles from Land's End and 7 miles from Penzance. This ancient parish dates to 500 AD and sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with spectacular coastal views.
The village gained unexpected fame when Prime Minister Boris Johnson stayed in a local cottage during his 2021 Cornwall holiday. His security detail caused quite a stir in the usually quiet village pub.
Nearby attractions include Minack Theatre (4.8/5 on TripAdvisor), Porthcurno Beach (4.7/5) and the ancient stone circle of Merry Maidens (4.5/5). St Michael's Mount is just a 15-minute drive away.
Accommodation ranges from traditional granite cottages to modern barn conversions. Many properties sleep 6-8 people, making them ideal for family gatherings. Several offer dog-friendly options with enclosed gardens.

Sightseeing
St Buryan sits in a prime spot for exploring Cornwall's most stunning landscapes. The village itself features a 15th-century church with the tallest tower in Cornwall (92 feet) - worth popping in to see the medieval wall paintings.
Land's End is just 4 miles away, where you can snap a photo at the famous signpost or visit the First & Last Inn, England's most westerly pub. The Minack Theatre (TR19 6JU, open 9:30am-5pm) is carved into the cliffs with Atlantic views that often upstage the performances.
Porthcurno Telegraph Museum (TR19 6JX) scores 4.6/5 on TripAdvisor and tells the fascinating story of how this tiny cove became the hub of international communications. The beaches around here are spectacular - Porthcurno, Sennen Cove and Porthgwarra all have clear waters and golden sand.
I always tell visitors to check out the Merry Maidens stone circle just outside the village. Legend says these stones were once young women turned to stone for dancing on a Sunday. It's free to visit and rarely crowded.
Pet Friendly
Dogs love St Buryan! The coastal paths offer miles of walking with stunning sea views. Most local beaches allow dogs year-round or have seasonal restrictions only during July-August peak hours.
The Logan Rock Inn (TR19 6LG) in nearby Treen welcomes dogs in the bar area and serves proper pub food. Their beer garden has water bowls and plenty of shade. The St Buryan Inn also allows dogs and does a decent Sunday roast.
When booking your hot tub cottage, look for properties with enclosed gardens - many around St Buryan have these. The village shop stocks basic pet supplies if you forget anything.
We recommend the coastal path between Lamorna and Mousehole for a spectacular dog walk. It's about 3 miles each way with breathtaking views. Just keep your dog on a lead near the cliff edges!
Top 3 attractions you have to see in St Buryan
The Minack Theatre is a must-visit even if you don't catch a show. This open-air theatre was hand-carved into the granite cliff by Rowena Cade in the 1930s. The views across Porthcurno Bay are worth the entry fee alone (£10 adults, £5 children). One visitor wrote: "Even in winter with no performance, this place is magical. The story of how it was built is incredible."
Porthcurno Beach looks like it belongs in the Caribbean with its white sand and turquoise water. It's sheltered by high cliffs and has been voted among Britain's top beaches. The walk down is steep but worth it. There's a small car park (£2 for 2 hours) that fills quickly in summer, so arrive before 10am. The beach has no facilities except toilets, so pack what you need.
St Michael's Mount is visible from many of the higher points around St Buryan. This tidal island with its medieval castle and subtropical gardens is accessible by causeway at low tide or by boat when the tide's in. The castle (TR17 0HS) is open 10:30am-5pm most days and costs £14.50 for adults. Book ahead in summer as it gets packed. The gardens are spectacular and the views from the top are amazing.
Is St Buryan good for families with young children?
Yes! The beaches nearby are safe for swimming (Sennen has lifeguards in summer). Paradise Park in Hayle (20 minutes drive) has indoor play areas for rainy days. Many cottages provide games and DVDs and having your own hot tub is brilliant for family fun regardless of weather.
Can I get around without a car?
It's challenging. There's a limited bus service (the 1/1A) connecting St Buryan to Penzance, but it's not frequent. Taxis from Penzance cost about £15-20. For exploring properly, I'd recommend having a car.
Where's the nearest supermarket?
St Buryan has a village store for basics. The nearest supermarkets are in Penzance (7 miles) - there's a large Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons. All offer delivery to St Buryan cottages if you book a slot.
Is the hot tub usable year-round?
Absolutely! Cornwall has a mild climate and most cottages maintain their hot tubs at around 38°C regardless of season. Winter stargazing from your hot tub is amazing as St Buryan has minimal light pollution.
What's the best time to visit?
May and September offer the perfect balance - good weather, lower prices and fewer crowds. The sea is still warm in September after heating up all summer.
Is there good mobile reception and WiFi?
Mobile signal can be patchy in parts of St Buryan. Most holiday cottages offer WiFi, but speeds are typically slower than urban areas. Perfect excuse to disconnect!
