Feniton Cottages with Hot Tubs
Feniton Guide
Feniton, a small village in East Devon, offers a great base for exploring the Jurassic Coast. The cottages with hot tubs here range from cosy one-bedroom retreats to larger properties for groups, all within easy reach of both countryside and coastline.
The village sits just 4 miles from Ottery St Mary and 14 miles from Exeter. Nearby attractions include Escot Park (4.6/5 on TripAdvisor), Killerton House (4.5/5) and the beaches at Sidmouth (15 minutes by car).
Feniton has an interesting railway history - the station was once part of the London & South Western Railway's main line to Exeter. During WWII, the village housed evacuees from London, with the local school expanding to accommodate them.
Staying in a cottage gives you freedom that hotels can't match - your own kitchen, living space and of course, that private hot tub for evening relaxation. Options include converted barns, thatched cottages and modern eco-friendly builds.

Sightseeing
Feniton puts you in a great spot to explore East Devon's best bits. The village itself is small but makes an excellent base with good transport links. I've found the local parish church of St Andrew's worth a look - parts date back to the 13th century.
Escot Park (EX11 1LU) is just 3 miles away and opens 10am-5pm daily. It's got amazing gardens, a maze and red squirrels. TripAdvisor gives it 4.6/5 from over 500 reviews. Kids love the woodland play areas and drop slides.
Killerton House (EX5 3LE), a National Trust property, sits about 7 miles away. The Georgian house has stunning gardens and an impressive fashion collection. It scores 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor and opens 10am-4pm (house) and 10am-5pm (gardens).
The Jurassic Coast starts just 12 miles away at Sidmouth. We think the red cliffs and beach are worth the short drive. Fossil hunting at Lyme Regis (25 miles) makes a brilliant day out - the kids will talk about it for weeks after finding their first ammonite!
Pet Friendly
Many Feniton cottages welcome dogs and the area is perfect for four-legged visitors. The East Devon Way passes near the village with miles of footpaths through woods and fields. Your dog will thank you for these walks!
The Greyhound Country Inn (EX14 3PJ) in nearby Fenny Bridges allows dogs in the bar area and garden. They even provide water bowls and treats. Their Sunday roasts are legendary locally.
Escot Park welcomes dogs on leads throughout the grounds, though not in the restaurant or play areas. The woodland walks there are perfect for a morning stroll before heading back to your hot tub cottage.
If you're heading to the coast, Sidmouth's Jacob's Ladder Beach allows dogs year-round on the western section. The wide open space is perfect for a good run. The Connaught Gardens above have stunning views and are also dog-friendly.
Top 3 attractions you have to see in Feniton
The Otter Inn (EX11 1RZ) sits in nearby Weston, just a mile from Feniton. This 16th-century pub serves excellent local food and Devon ales. The beer garden backs onto the River Otter where you might spot kingfishers or even otters if you're lucky. One visitor wrote: "Best pub meal we had all holiday and the staff made our dog feel like a VIP."
Cadhay House (EX11 1QT) is a hidden gem 3 miles away in Ottery St Mary. This Tudor manor opens to visitors on Friday afternoons (2-5pm) from May to September. The gardens are stunning, especially the medieval courtyard. A recent visitor commented: "Like stepping back in time without the crowds of better-known houses." The house featured in the BBC's Pride and Prejudice too!
Feniton Old Village and its ancient church make a lovely walk from most cottages. The church tower dates from 1544 and inside you'll find a 13th-century font. The short circular walk through the old village reveals thatched cottages and the old railway station. Perfect for stretching your legs before enjoying that hot tub back at your cottage.
Is Feniton good for families with young children?
Yes! Escot Park nearby has brilliant outdoor play areas and Crealy Theme Park is just 9 miles away. Many cottages provide games and DVDs and the flat walking routes around the village suit little legs. The Otter Inn has a good children's menu too.
How far is Feniton from the beach?
The nearest beach is at Sidmouth, about 15 minutes' drive (8 miles). Beer, Branscombe and Exmouth beaches are all within 30 minutes by car. Each offers something different - Sidmouth for traditional seaside, Beer for fishing village charm and Exmouth for watersports.
Can I get around without a car?
Feniton has a railway station with services to Exeter (20 minutes) and London Waterloo (3 hours). Local buses connect to Honiton and Ottery St Mary. However, a car makes exploring much easier, especially for reaching coastal areas and more remote attractions.
What's the best time to visit?
May to September offers the best weather for enjoying your hot tub and exploring. October is beautiful for autumn colours at Killerton and Escot. Ottery St Mary's famous Tar Barrels event on November 5th is spectacular but books up accommodation quickly.
Are there good places to eat nearby?
The Greyhound Country Inn and The Otter Inn both serve excellent food within a mile of Feniton. Ottery St Mary (4 miles) has several good restaurants including The Rusty Pig for farm-to-table dining. Honiton (5 miles) offers even more options.
Can I arrange grocery deliveries to my cottage?
Yes, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Waitrose all deliver to Feniton cottages. There's also a Spar shop in the village for essentials and excellent farm shops nearby including Joshua's Harvest Store (EX11 1LJ) for local produce.
